Born From a Love of South Indian Home Cooking
South Empire Biriyani began with one idea: to serve the kind of biryani you'd find in the bustling lanes of Chennai and Ambur β without shortcuts. Today our family-run kitchen on York Road welcomes locals, wine-country visitors and students from across the Niagara Region.
We pair the fiery character of Tamil Nadu with beloved North Indian classics like butter chicken, dal makhni and fresh naan, so every guest finds a favourite.

How We Make Our Dum Biryani
1. Hand-Picked Spices
Whole cardamom, cloves, star anise and stone flower are toasted and ground fresh.
2. Overnight Marination
Meats rest in yogurt, ginger-garlic and green masala for deep flavour.
3. Layered With Care
Seeraga samba or basmati rice is par-cooked and layered with the masala.
4. Sealed Dum Cooking
The pot is sealed and slow-cooked so every grain absorbs the aroma.
5. Served Fresh
Garnished with fried onions and mint and served with raita and salna.
